Mystic Gauze
They say it is freezing fog today
yet through my window I see mystic gauze,
coloured in softest pink;
Surely from the sun behind.
It seems that each time the light shines,
our hearts take flight.
I wonder if the birds freeze?
Indoors a Christmas Rose shines
lit by the sun,
warming hearts, spreading smiles.
A gift to us all.
Wrapping some presents I hum
Yet, realize the best this year
is unwrappable.
The gift of protecting our fellow man
and ourselves,
So we can all meet again.
More caring than ever before.

“The best this year is unwrappable.” This is the truest gift, one we can give each other so easily. Thank you for stating it so beautifully, Miriam.

A positive and heart-warming take on our present situation. Just what is needed to counteract some of the more melancholic offerings (Yes, I’m guilty of that too).

Roland, I am so glad to see your answer and delighted that you could feel the positive from the lines.
We all live in frightening times and need to find warmth and care both within ourselves as with others.
I wanted to answer your last post and pondered a couple of days. Will see if I build up courage.😊.

Beautiful sentiements as well as poinsettia, Miriam! On another note, I can tell you that yes, birds Do freeze. But only when we have freak weather that causes them, as they did back in September, to fall frozen and dead from the skies, not having had time to acclimate. We made the news on that one, here in Northern New Mexico.
Happy New Year! ❤

Bela, thank you for you ur lovely and interesting comment.
Poor birds, literally dying in flight. Raining dead birds must have been a shock. I knew they seek heat and build their nests under roof tiles and anything close to warmth.
Poinsettia is indeed the correct name for this shining flower. I grew up with it being called “ Julros “ (in Sweden) which translates to Christmas rose.
Have a peaceful and joyful season.

Wonderful! Jul=Yuletide, correct? 😊 people grow massive hedges of poinsettia in Hawaii, they love that climate. But, like you, I have a cluster indoors to celebrate this time of year.
Yes, it was shocking and very sad about the birds. We feed them massive amounts of seed to make it through the winter. And I imagine they do fine in the lush pine trees here, though trying to discover where birds go at night seems a fool’s errand. They just seem to just disappear; and then in the morning, they simply vaporize out of the blue sky onto the birdfeeders!
Blessings to you during this holiday season, and many happy returns in the new year. Let’s hope for positive change in this world. 🙏💞

Beautiful misty image remining me of fairy dusting. Yes, that’s a mystery about birds. They seem to do okay. I love the part about the best presents being unwrappable. ! Blessings to you in the year ahead!

Wow! Miriam, this is sublime! 😀 I love the opening lines and that instead of fog you see the ‘mystic gauze’ lit up by the sky. A beautiful and magical vision! Your Christmas rose is irridescent and a wonderful gift to share with us all. Is it still doing well? How true that ‘the best this year /is unwrappable’ and I am sure many acted accordingly this Christmas. May it not be too long until we can celebrate a belated Christmas with family and friends. Keep safe, my dear friend and keep writing! Your poetry is a guiding light to us all! xx ❤️

Thank you, dear Annika, for this fantastic comment. It lit me up.😊.
Magical is important in our lives, we need to see the wonder every day.
As to the Christmas Rose it is rather magical as well and keeps growing
very big and happy. All I do is give it some water and chat a bit as we wait for the sun.
Thanks for your kind words about writing, I will take them to heart. Xx💖
