HIDDEN WINGS

Hidden Wings

This morning as the sun arose
I saw a little bird fly in,
blessing my garden with its grace.

It fed among flowers and seeds
without hurry or greed,
leaving enough for the friends.

Suddenly he hopped up to my patio door,
turned his head side to side, studying me;
I was feeding too.

I could hear him tweet, you can also fly,
your wings are hidden within.
Just trust and you will rise;
Higher each time.

I tried this once before, when I was a girl,
I thought my arms too thin, no wings at all.
Now I wonder, does he mean my spirit wings?

Could I soar and dip and swing
if I trust the wings within.

Why don’t we all give it a try.

  1. Thank you, Derrick, for your valued comment.
    I read a book about the search for a golden beetle with sheer hidden Wings, it made a deep impression on me. The story about me almost jumping of a high rock as I wanted to fly is also based on true event. 😊.

  2. Yes!! 😀😀 Miriam, I think we all should try and find those spiritual wings, trusting them as we soar ever higher! Phew, I’m glad young you realised that arms were not enough for actual flight but I can relate to the desire to mimic the wonder of flight of the birds!

    A wonderful and touching poem, Miriam and as always you turn what can be seen as an ordinary event into a spiritual one, causing us to reflect on our lives! A precious gift and thank you for sharing with us.

    Wishing you a lovely rest of the week! hugs xx ❤️

    • Ahh…, Annika, your comment is so beautiful and filled with depth as well as soaring. I get a feeling you
      also tried to fly with arms out-stretched. :).
      I am so glad you felt the spiritual side of the poem – and dont we all need to fly at times when the days might seem heavy. Get a new perspective.
      Thank you for your kind words and have a good end of the week too you too. hug xx

  3. Beautiful and inspiring! I know it’s about spirit wings, but a funny personal note is that as I’ve gotten older I’ve been embarrassed by the lose skin under my arms and have joked that they might turn into wings. Fortunately, I’m becoming more accepting of my old lady wings since I notice this is fairly common.

    • Sharon, I am deeply touched by your comment. Thank you. You will definately be able to do something spectacular if you try; as will all who really dare. Let us try more often, I feel inspired by your words. 🙂

  4. Birds do bless us with their presence, don’t they? Even the darling mama duck and her ducklings who ended up in my pool and couldn’t get out yesterday. I scooped them out–twice!

    • Oh yes, Jacqui, they do indeed bless us. The ducks swimming in your pool
      make me laugh. I think you need to construct a ‘ duck ramp’ for future visits.
      Scooping them out might be more fun though…..🤗.

    • I am glad you liked my poem, Chandra. As to being printed in your magazine
      would have been great. However, I went in on line to read a few copies and could not see how I would fit in at all.
      So thank you but until I know the reason and how I will say No.

  5. You remind me, Miriam, how we learn a great many lessons from nature. You share this beautifully with your words “…leaving enough for the friends.” Oh, Wow! The hairs rise on my arms as I continue to read. “Spirit wings” and “wings within.” I do believe we have them. Beautifully written! You have enriched my evening/my life. Thank you.
