Silence Spoke

Silence Spoke

Lightly the white fluffy flakes were falling
Outside my patio doors,
I opened and stepped out
Stood there for a wh
ile.

The soft snowflakes melted on my face;
Cold but exhilarating.
Silence, mystic silence prevailed,
yet it spoke.

Spoke in quiet tones, of peace.

Nature has so many sounds,
I love them all;
The patter of light rain, the storms,
the breeze through the trees;

Whispers and roars show life on Earth
its indomitable resonance and tenacity.

Now I feel and hear the silence
of pure white snow whirling from the sky,
I cherish the hush,

I cherish the wisdom of old.

    That you could feel the shiver and the hush.
    The photo I took from a deck I know well. 🤗 .

    I love the thought of both feeling and hearing the silence, Miriam. Amidst all of the confusion and noise, it indeed encompasses “the wisdom of old.” Thanks again for sharing one of your poems. Always welcome. –Curt

  3. Thankyou for this delightful and beautiful celebration of natures many songs. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen snow here near the coast. The soft quietness of snow is what I love the most about it; Your words take me to that place of peace.

  4. Miriam, a wonderful and gentle poem that like your fluffy snowflakes is falling with wonder upon my soul, letting hush descend upon the busyness of mind and emotions! Ahh … to hear the silence is a gift indeed and you convey the magic of this moment with beauty and lyricism of your words! May the power of nature allow us equally to develop ‘indomitable resonance and tenacity’! Thank you for sharing this moment with us, for letting us step outside your patio with you to experience this epiphany! hugs xx

  5. Hi Miriam, The word and the concept of “silence” has been surfacing in my radar recently. I suspect only someone who has experienced snow can truly understand how silence speaks. Your beautiful words capture this well. Especially “Now I feel and hear hear the silence….”. And I also cherish the hush. Wow. Beautiful, Miriam!❤️

  6. Erica / Erika, how great to see you again and thank you for a wonderful comment. Well, you might be right, Erica, about silence. I did grow up in Sweden and every winter lots of snow was a certainty.
    I am honoured by how beautifully you have interpreted the poem and the way it touched you. 🤗.
