The Rock

The Rock

I laid down on a rock,
large, smooth, pink granite,
warmed by the sun.

Timeless energies from the rock,
enveloped me;

Soothed my muscles,
received my pains.
Gave ease, relaxation and peace.
A glow spreads within,

The birth of joy.

The sound from the sea
Joins the symphony,
waves rhythmically lapping the shore,
Singing their eternal song.

I drift into altered consciousness,
of wholeness and clarity.
A sweet voice says “are you o.k.?”
Blessings are complete.

With a smile I rise,
we continue to throw.
Pebbles that skip on the waves.

  1. Sometimes it’s enough to have that one singular moment of joy before returning to the profane world. Sometimes one moment is all we get. Your poem reminds me to celebrate the gift I’ve been given. Thank you, Miriam.

    • Sharon, thank you for your beautiful comment. You are so right, every single moment / experience like this becomes a shining star within. I also do believe that we should celebrate life although I do know and see how dark it can look at times.
Butterflies dancing in front of me now is another such golden moment. 💕

I bet you can guess where the photos come from…I took them on an island
nearest Vinga Fyr ( lighthouse ).

  5. Ahh …, thank you Balroop for you beautiful comment. Soothing and healing is how it feels.
Now I can imagine thoughts reaching so many thousand miles. :)) Both by the shore – on rock or sand.

  6. There is almost something sentient about rock Miriam, as if it absorbs thought and records all around. It is something you feel you can hear? read? feel? And no more so than rock fed by the sea and wind.
Your enchanting and thought provoking poem makes me think of this, trees often seem the same.
In my imagination I saw you blissfully lulled to a state where the natural world around you whispered to you great truths.
    Wonderful Miriam, thank you .

    • Ahh …Nigel, I am so glad to see you back, have worried about you and missed you.
Thank you for your deep and understanding comment. You seem to easily float into these energies. You are right, I do feel and hear it and they have affected me since childhood. The islands formed during the ice age and have much to tell. 😊 .
It seems to me that you can hear too, trees to you and to me too also share. I often stop and put my palms against the trunk and just stand in stillness to absorb.
Thank you for your wonderful comment 🤗

      • Thank you for such kind words Miriam, just going through a rather rough time at the moment, but as you will know we’re a stubborn breed up here (bloody-minded grandpa called me) and I shall prevail.

      • You keep being bloody-minded Nigel. Nothing wrong with being stubborn.
        I am pretty stubborn myself.😉 .
You have become a friend through all that is shared on the posts and I can’t
but feel my heart go out to you.

  7. Certain minerals in rocks, as we have in the Rockies, can pick up radio signals, like an antenna. The result is ‘singing rocks’ Hard to know where the vibrations are coming from, and is the frequency one of ours, or the cosmos?

    • Thank you for your interesting comment Phil. I didn’t know this about the Rockies but can well believe it. The energies from rocks – big or small – are
well known. I like to think the frequencies of the energies might be part of cosmos. I could write a lot about this bit will contain myself.

We as people also radiate energies.

  8. Thank you so much for this kind comment Roland. Funnily the word ‘ healing’ was part of the poem before I decided to do some sharp trimming. Maybe too sharp. It is indeed meant that be a hymn of sorts.

  9. Miriam, my heart is skipping along with the pebble which is skimming across the sea! There is a light playful nature to your poem, I feel a child-like urge to climb those rocks, to feel their energy seep into me. With just a few words you’ve deftly captured the very essence of life, of living in the now! Absolute and all-encompassing joy. One stanza is particularly striking and I came back to this a few times.

    ‘The sound from the sea
    Joins the symphony,
    waves rhythmically lapping the shore,
    Singing their eternal song.’

Wow! 🎼𝄞𝄢 Just as your poem is a song for us! hugs xx

    • Thanks for your beautiful and joyful answer Annika. I am so very glad you felt this joy and it is fun to climb these rocks or run on the smooth ones. You can lie down for a rest ever now and again. 😊
Your review of the poem touches me greatly ; ‘the essence of. Life’, living in the now.

A song to you here, how wonderful is that. Bless you.

  10. Love this, Miriam! I could picture myself meditating there, on the shore on a sun-warmed rock. There’s nothing quite like absorbing that calming energy from nature. You’ve brought that out in this poem. And a lovely picture as well!

  11. Thank you Julie for your positive comment. I am so glad you share this
feeling of positive energies from nature. We need but still our mind and

  12. What a lovely poem, Miriam, that exudes not only peace, but joy in life itself, and those moments that seem simple but are quite the opposite. Your words also remind me of our trips to the mountains where we reveled in freshwater swimming and granite rock hopping. There is no better place to find peace than near the sea and sand or in the mountains by a lake or river. Thank you for sharing this gem! ❤

  13. Lauren, what a wonderful response to my poem. I love how you see he joy in life itself, which can carry you through many difficulties.
Your visits to the mountains sound so beautiful and jumping those rocks …,
are they also well polished by the freshwater. I bet that water is clean up in the mountain.
Those are places to find yourself. 💕
