The Fen
My friends, I so wish you could hear
the sound of Dragonfly wings over the Fen,
the whispering of Butterflies as they nectar seek.
Would it be that you could share the humming silence;
The wonder, the awe.
I spot a little sparrow on the ground, pecking in peace,
he also is part of the serenity that surrounds.
The stillness that whispers in the breeze
the tranquility of crickets, dragonflies, butterflies,
of us breathing quietly, not saying a thing.
I can feel the sun caress my skin, not burning,
gently makes me feel as if glowing.
Earth is giving up scents so heavenly,
the richness of which I cannot describe.
I wish you could smell it too.
The scent from earth, so generous
flooding our senses.

A moving gentle evocation of the simple wonders of nature which surround us, often without us pausing to think of the quiet joy which is given to us in this way. Thank you, Miriam.

Your comment is so beautiful, Brad. I can tell that we often travel the same
road albeit in different lands. When all the senses sing in harmony, how much
better can it be.

This has nothing to do with anything, but your post reminded me of a sound design project I did years ago where the art director told me, “Right here I need the sound of butterfly wings on a ping pong ball.” I almost fell out of my chair. I’m not commenting on the scents from the earth because I have a large dog…

Thank you Phil, your comment gave me a good laugh. From sounds of
the Fens to sound projects for a film…..that shows how writing can trigger
many buttons in the brain and soul.
Out of curiosity, did you ever manage? To create the sound.
P.s. maybe you have to leave your dog with a minder so you can feel the scents.😊🦋.

Yes to the sound effect which came out (to me) sounding more like a flag flapping in the wind, but who’s to say?

Oh, yes! Well, we lived without hummingbirds for 15 years in Hawaii. I really missed the little buggers. 😉 and of course yes! Songbirds of all kinds are such a gift. ❤️
