Winter Gauze
We saw winter come dressed in gauze,
Sheer transparent white
Dancing and swirling;
Dressing fields, roofs, cars and plants
in wondrous coats,
Dress designers drop their tools.
Give up.
Sun rises higher in the sky
warming, smiling, revealing.
Cars don’t look so pretty now.
Only nature shines in many hues.
A plant pot catches my eyes
as it displays,
Little fir tree in spring green
lit from within
Surrounded by flowers so glowing
in sheer gold, burnished gold,
deep purple heather for show.
The sky exhilaratingly blue
after many grey and sad looking days.
My heart sings with the birds
as I finish Sunday breakfast
conversing with you.

You had me at the title, Miriam. I could picture this lacy scrim of frost on everything outside. And you delivered on the promise – a perfect tribute to winter’s promise to make way for spring.

Sharon, thank you for your beautiful comment. Scrim of frost is exactly what I tried to show. Sheer and like lace. Also how a seemingly ‘ordinary’ day can turn into a morning of celebration.

Lovely images Miriam, capturing winter in words is not an easy endeavor but you have done it superbly. “Dress designers drop their tools” is too good… who could compete with Mother Nature? 🙂

Magical, Miriam! 😀 You capture the artistic wonder of nature with beauty and awe … we can just sit back and enjoy the miracle of such moments! I love your photo accompanying your poem, it has its own ethereal light and celebrates the “Sheer transparent white / Dancing and swirling”. I’m hoping to see many such mornings this winter but alas far too few – your words will create the winter magic instead! xx

Thank you Annika for your so beautiful comment. Nature is Art of highest order and as you say, leaves us in awe and wonder. I am really so glad if I could convey some magic to you. There has been too many grey and rainy days this winter so the shining white was the more thrilling.
Your words are as always quite magical and full of life, bless.
Xx💕.

Thank you for your lovely comment, Curt. I bet your deck and the surroundings look gorgeous in such sheer light.
I grew up in a country with snowy winters and loved it. The snow made everything light and shimmering and provided so many new games for all of us.

Definitely snow ball fights, and building of forts. Also skiing and sledging
and attempts to build igloos. That wasn’t easy now …
