WHY
Why cries my inner self,
Why
so much cruelty and hate.
We were given a paradise,
Now look, look what man has done.
Grief and confusion fill my heart
as I see the world with so much
anger, hate and greed.
Many centuries man have been killing each other
In the name of God, Allah and Greed.
War and murder in the most horrendous ways;
Enslavement created profits
How could morals and goodness be so suppressed.
Don’t get me wrong, there is much goodness as well,
Ripples turning to rivers.
Love being the currency and care for all.
In all this rebirth of Earth and its children
there are already countries that count
their Gross profit in happiness,
Happiness of people in the land.

Yes, there is still goodness and caring out there, if you know where to look!

Thank you Jenanita. How true, we need to know where to look and how to look. Goodness does not scream, it shines.

It is sad that we can create such disharmony and suffering in the world, when it doesn’t have to be that way.

we might gradually increase the good in the world. We know it is there, we meet it every day.

Very sad questions, Miriam. It seems that despite the last three months, there is no real commitment to making changes that will benefit the environment and ensure the survival of our world into the future.

Thanks Robbie for your comment, you are so right. The questions are sad. But without looking at the seriousness nobody will change. As it is there are changes. Some countries are going for total eco friendly fuel, cars are increasingly being built for electricity and other biofuels are being developed.
Above all, many seem to care for each other more …. can’t say whether it will last and what power it brings. 🤗.

Ken, thank you.I feel so too. Every time I hear people express the warmth and change they feel. Share the longing for a hug. Saying, do we need so much, we have all this, pointing to garden and the sky.
That gives me hope.

Thanks for caring Miriam. Yes, the world is full of goodness and evil, with hopefully the goodness starting to turn the tide.

I do believe goodness is beginning to turn the tide …. maybe nudging and nudging, but happening.

Miriam, yet again you capture my own, and I imagine many other’s, emotions exactly! The question of WHY must be one resonating around the globe … with wisdom and calm you write about the very sad and troubled times, touching on its history. However, being you, you had to leave us with a sense of hope, goodness in the world articulated with your usual deft poetic self along with a dash of humour! I love the final idea of ‘Gross profit in happiness’ … may it be so indeed! 😀❤️

Annika, thank you so much, once again you give a deeply thought review of my poem and share your feelings. Yes yes you are right, why, oh why, must be asked by millions. There are probably so many answers or like me, questions with guessing but not knowing.
I do like you finding a dash of humour, must write a humorous one next. 😊.
Wouldn’t it be happy though, with gross profit in happiness. Fulfilment.🤗.

The emotions within this poem are reaching me Miriam. Such outbursts from times immemorial may not have changed the face of humanity but they do highlight the need to introspect and change… change, which every age promises but change that is slow, so slow that it can hardly be felt yet posterity sees it. Hope remains alive and may hope thrive.

Balroop, I am so glad you can feel the strong emotions. They can’t change the word on their own but added the many others, voices are heard.
There have been many changes but some dictum have remained too static..
As you say, and you know I agree, may Hope thrive. 🦋🎶.

The old quote, “The darkest night brings the brightest stars” came to mind as I was reading your poem, Miriam. These are such trying times. The world is in an upheaval. Massive change is underway. If we can keep the faith and continue to focus on the positive while facing the negative, we can survive— and possibly even thrive. –Curt

Thank you so much, Curt, for your wise comment. I do love the quote and
hope we see the stars as they appear. I believe, as one man said.
Big changes are indeed on the way on many fronts and somehow I feel they can bring a change that is positive.
I like how you say that we might possibly even thrive. Wonderful words to me.

It is impossible to go through the rapid changes we have seen in the last 50-100 years without a massive readjustment, Miriam. And readjustments are rarely easy, especially for the people left behind, for whatever the reason. We have made signigficant strides. But is easy to lose site of them. 🙂

Beautifully and so well composed poem, Miriam. There are good people on this earth and yes from ages man has been fighting in the name of religion but now in our modern life hope we come to realize in the Oneness of God.

Kamal, thank you for your lovely response, I do appreciate it.
Yes, there is and has been to much fight of all kind so we hope that gradually
kindness and caring will be the basis of going forward.
Nothing like this will happen overnight but boulders move.

Roland, I am glad to hear you feeling the same about our troubled Earth.
After all the traumas we are going through and to a big extent have created,
it is time to let Earth and us heal and find a new way.

Thank you for this powerful truth! It is very hard to understand how humans can still be so slow to learn. “We were given a paradise.” Maybe one day we will become worthy of it, counting our profit in happiness…. and peace.

It is believed that the earth needs negative energy to counterbalance and create positive change, An example is the tectonic plates deep in the earth move against each other and causes earthquakes which in turn creates more water for our oceans, maybe the difference in people makes for the same type of change… jc

Thank you for your comment, JC. Following your comparison to tectonic plates I personally feel there are enough negativity from human ‘tectonic plates’ to more than counter balance the positive forces.
So, we better keep letting the light in and flood ourselves and Earth with
goodness.

Clear, concise and heartfelt! You’ve covered a great deal of what’s on people’s minds Miriam, yet also revealed them as more, they are indeed great mysteries when the solutions appear so simple.
