 SUCCESS

is not in numbers, nor applause;
Success is daring to be you,
your unique Self.

Daring to let fake facades, worries
and dark times fly;
Sharing who you really are,
just you, not a copy or pretence.

We learn from all around us,
from nature in its pure truth
from people who are poor
and those who are rich.

Yet I repeat, success is being true.
Not gleaming facades.
It is the radiant kernel within.

Success is to find joy in the delicacy
of a child’s smile,
in the heart-stopping  beauty of sunrise;
In a morning flower, fresh with dew.

  1. Miriam. You’ve done it again. Taken a subject and thoughts that are almost impossible to put into words, then expressed them so truthfully and elegantly. Thank you for making the brain think along new lines.

    • Thank you Peter for your beautiful response.
      Some matters are indeed difficult to express so I am grateful for your thoughts on this.
      As to think along new lines, it is good for the brain it is said. 😊 .

    • Thank you so much Balroop. I feel quite strongly on this subject as there is
      too much pressure to achieve that many lose sight of who they are.

      I was also very happy that you choose some of my favourite lines. 💕 .

  2. Thank you JoAnna. To dare to be true is not always as easy as it sounds
    but wonderfully freeing. I am not against outward succes of man as long
    as it is based on truth and not empty idolisation.

  3. You are right Jaquie and I smile at your lovely phrasing ” pegged the most difficult path to success”. It is hard to reach success in many fields and we should rightly be happy for these successes. But not defined.

    Thank you Jaqui for your comment.

      First, let me apologise for the late response in answering. Somehow your answer had ended up in spam which I finally went through today.

      You are so right, we need to ignore the materialistic. Things in life fo really and deeply understand and feel success.

  4. This is excellent… I beleive we all have riches we’ve not embraced yet. And this begs the question If not now, when?.

  5. Thank you Björn for your interesting and open comment.
    I do like your last sentence about shortcut the truth.
    That could be, the world conspires and maybe we do too, fear of not
    be one of the tribe, belonging.

  6. Miriam, I love your take on success … as always gently reminding us of an absolute truth; this time on the topic of success! For so many it is measured in things, money, job – all the time forgetting that the ultimate truth of the word lies within ourselves. Perhaps it is too frightening to look at our own lives so deeply but we shouldn’t be. All of us achieving success in our lives as we discover that “…radiant kernel within.” Another wonderful poem that will stay with me. Hugs xx

  7. Annika, a deeply felt thank you for this beautiful and thoughtful comment.
    You state so wisely ” that the ultimate truth of the word lies within ourselves. ”
    I agree, it can be frightening to look deeply within our own selves but it is worth it if we dare. Our achievements will then be true and shining. 🤗

    • June, I am very glad to have you here and am grateful to JoAnna who, so to say, introduced you.
      I am happy to hear you could feel joy through my words and I have to admit that nature figures
      frequently in my writing. 🙂

  8. This is a wonderful interpretation of success and radiates achievement that’s enduring. One can be successful in all things and admire the success of others, everything benefiting from a positive approach and recognition of worth. A great thought to guide my day.

  9. Thank you so much Kamal for your warm and appreciative words.
    May our success always be without pretence, may it stem from our inner self.
    Yes, failure will meet us often to but can be the lesson we need.
