SNOW DROP

SNOW DROP

What a joy looking through the window,
this morning was special;
Frost had given way to gentle sun.

Above all, a whole hamlet of Snowdrops sang,
I promise you, they really did.
Dressed in shining white against darker hues,
they called us to celebrate too.

To celebrate the return of life,
from hidden slumber in the ground.

I looked up at the Lilac tree above
and smiled,
It wouldnโ€™t be outdone, their buds were swollen
also singing of spring.

Blackbirds and Robins were feeding on the lawn,
My special Robin came to the windowsill.
We twittered together of many things
and he taught me to sing.

I opened the window and fed him sunflower seeds,
He twittered happily so I think he was pleased.

Now, I am twittering to you,
glad of the lesson I learnt;
There is always beauty in each day.

I better go, my coffee is getting cold.

  1. Miriam, a beautiful start to the weekend! ๐Ÿ˜€ The sheer joy of your morning greeting is filled with love and attention; your imagery is magical and Iโ€™m taken with the idea of โ€˜a whole hamlet of Snowdropsโ€™. Sounds heavenly! How sweet to feed your friend the robin sunflower seeds … you both give generously! Hope the coffe wasnโ€™t too cold in the end! Happy Weekend, my friend! โค๏ธ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒท

  2. Ahh … Annika, how wonderful that my poem enhanced your Saturday morning. I really felt so happy watching the scene outside, we are lucky
if we can and even luckier when it touches our hearts.
Well, Annika, it wasn’t many enough to be a village so I felt hamlet was sort sweeter. ๐Ÿค— . As to the Robin and I, we are good friends and my coffee was just cool. Thank you so much. โค๏ธ .

    • Wonderful comment Brad, thank you. It really felt like brightness is returning.
      Nature knows better than us.
Now to the song by the snow drops ๐Ÿ˜Š … do you think I gone a bit far. grin.
Listen with your spiritual ears and you will hear a quiet glockenspiel played by soft wind.

  3. Jennifer, thank you for your wonderful compliment. It raises one up to
    feel such positivity.
I guess the price of moving to Canada means you have to wait for an explosive spring , quite a bit later. ๐Ÿค— .

  4. Such beautiful imagery, Miriam. It’s lovely to see those early whispers of spring, the delicate buds and birds flitting in on the tail of winter. We’ve had a very rainy winter and are hoping to see the spring wildflowers this year on the California hills – a month or so away.

    • Thank you Sharon for this wonderful comment. I am glad you found the imagery beautiful – not whimsical ๐Ÿ™‚ -. It is indeed a wonderful period when
      nature bursts to life again.
Soon your turn to write lyrically about it.

  5. Happy winter Miriam… this reminds me of my winters in the Carolinas. I believe we are meant for all seasons as they each teach us something about ourselves… j

    • Jc, happy spring to you – or being FLorida I guess it is; happy sunshine.
Here spring has arrived and I am feeling happy as more and more signs burst out.
Carolina is a beautiful place with these black mountains and also beaches.

  6. Roland, I do so appreciate your appreciative and lovely comment. I actually did mean the poem to be conversational so your perception made me glad.
I think we all find joy in the renewal of Nature’s cycle and each one has
    it’s own beauty.
Just now sun and warmth would be wonderful.

  7. A timely reminder of the joy and pleasure to found everywhere if one would only look and not just see. Strange how simple beauty appears to be so elusive and complicated to know for some.
    We must pity such unfortunates.

    • Nigel, wonderful to see you here again. How right you are about there being
pleasure and beauty to be found everywhere if you but look – look with attention.
From now on I shall consider myself fortunate, you taught a lesson. Thank you.

    • Ahh … B. , I love your comment and to be a drop of Spring. It is cold up North with you but I like the way you call it frozen winter splendour. Let our hearts sing together with the birds.

  8. Thank you so much Bjรถrn, I love the way you say ‘ taste ‘ of spring.
I should think it is a good month before you see Spring in Sweden,
    depending on where you live.

  9. Thank you Kate for your lovely comment. I do really talk/ sing to the birds.
There are especially two. One Robin in the front and one in the back garden.
The one in the back sits there until I with joy say ” you are beautiful”, then
    he starts singing.
