Loving Heart
I talked to my heart this morning
in the quiet of the dawn;
It was restive and had lost its rhythm,
I felt it had been asked too much
carrying burdens and worries each day.
I put my hand above this faithful heart
that kept working day and night,
In spite of work, worry, sorrow and strain
at around 100,000 beats a day.
Now it was confused and had lost its way,
the rhythm was fractured and danced;
Seemingly any which way.
So I whispered, I love you dear heart,
I will help, together we will find peace again.
I asked forgiveness for thoughtlessness.
Sweetly I talked also to the brain, we agreed,
stress and hurry should be banned,
A new regime was to begin
one of trust and calm.
So with this in mind, I started with calmer steps,
lit some candles for breakfast and watched,
just observed, buds on bushes and trees;
Rain watering them all and sun soon to warm.
I wanted to restart in harmony with them;
Allowing healing powers to flow.

Thank you for your beautiful comment. You are right, I wrote it as a reminder to myself then thought maybe there are more people who could benefit from thinking in time. 😊 .

So very true but believe me, this came from experience.
It is hard to always be on the run and to find that to put on the breaks might be equally hard.
I believe it is worth it though as life is very precious.

A beautiful poem… I think the heart is up there with the moon in the things it is asked to do or believed responsible for. Like a seashell, it is asking us to place the shell by our senses and sit back and listen for there is truth in living this way… jc

Thank you Jeff, your answer is beautiful and almost spiritual.
I love the reference to the moon and of course the seashell is a very good imagery as we can listen to it. I will try to listen each day and follow my own re-discovered truth as well. 😊 .

This was very helpful. I put my hand on my heart as I read it and sent love and gratitude to my heart and body. I’m going to draw a heart on a sticky note with “gratitude” in it to remind to do this more.

I hope you are well my friend and this is just an imaginative poem.
It’s good to talk to our hearts and those who do, find the happiness within their own thoughts, as heart knows all, it gently guides toward our dreams, without rushing. It is the heart that reassures us that all would be well. I appreciate how well you have organized your words to let them flow in this poem. Beautifully done Miriam. Stay blessed.

Thank you Balroop for your kind concern. Our emotional and physical lives are very dependent on each other and so it was a physical one that triggered my seeing deeply what had happened and what we all risk.
I felt great peace as I talked to the heart, it also stilled flitting thoughts as all
seemed so simple – and yet had a positive complexity.
Thank you also for your kind compliment on the poem. 💕 .

Lovely poem and reminders Miriam. It reminds me of Matt Kahn’s book about talking to ourselves as would a parent to a tender 5-year-old, nurturing and soothing with words.

Miriam, a beautiful and touching poem to your dear heart … your tenderness expressed so eloquently here cannot fail to heal it. ❤️We are all ‘carrying burdens and worries each day’ and would do well to whisper to our own hearts and mind, to cherish their gift of life. I am also taken with the number of heartbeats in a day … that is a lot! No wonder it fractures at time, with love, care and calm you can absolutely trust it will heal again. Thank you for sharing this heartfelt poem, filled with depth and wisdom. hugs xx

A deeply felt thank you Annika for your beautiful and sensitive response.
If love can heal, then so be it. I do continue giving this care now and found the hardest to control is the brain. It is stubborn. 😊 .
I was also in awe when I worked out the average number of beats, my respect for the precious vessel we are given has reached another level.
Annika, I am glad this poem brought you some new thoughts and calm.

What a lovely poem! Every time one of my things breaks (could be a computer or the TV or even a spatula), I flit to my body. How the heck did God make it so resilient as to last decades? Something to think about.

Thank you Jaqui, I am glad you liked the poem.
There is a lot of healing power in us, part of our whole. Thinking of people
who really go through trauma and wars, losing everything and loved ones. Still, thanks to positive spirit, will to live and a pinch of luck, survive.
Amazing.

You grabbed my attention from the start – years ago I had a pacemaker “installed” because of arrhythmia’s (including atrial fib). Since then I’ve put my heart into God’s hands . . . yet it still needs me to listen. Your poem is a lovely and wonderful reminder.

Thank you for your lovely comment. We do indeed need to be more
aware of what is important in our lives.
Maybe we need a pacemaker installed in our reactive selves as to avoid
overreaction. Just kidding.
I know a few who have pace makers and seem to live well with them so I hope you do.

Miriam, you’ve shared your thoughts and worries in this sensitive poem, one that makes me pause and think, but I wonder at what expense to you. My lovely daughter-in-law, at a time that I was deeply upset, told me what I will pass on to you: Be gentle with yourself. I sincerely hope that whatever is troubling you will pass soon.

Dear Sharon, your sensitivity and concern touches me deeply and carry
healing in themselves. Thank you. You are right, the expense that creates
a poem can be great. Either way on the scale.

This is a lovely poem. I like how it explores what our hearts think, and how it works with our brain. Trust and calm is so important. Trust and the heart can love and love so beautiful. Being calm we can think straight and we can allow ourselves to heal ourselves – and see the road ahead clearly. Have a good weekend, Miriam 🙂
