DANCE

Dance as if freedom is yours, your right,
sing as if all are free, like heaven above,
smile the guileless smile of a child;

Dance to the song of life,

history will tell me I am wrong
so will the news,
that evil is inherent in man;
That my dreams are naive,

maybe so, my friends, yet
you might also find,
your beauty, your song.
Hidden under historical wrongs;

Let us choose the light
and not imitate the throng,
nor applaud just because …
Without thought, without reflection.

Believe in you, in us, in freedom
Dance in the sun with a guileless smile.

    • Sharon, thank you for your comment. How right you are, they are all essence of our soul from the beginning of time. People danced, made music, recited poetry, told stories…..
We are no different now, we just have more complications to deal with.

  1. Love to dance disco!😊 Today we have a pride parade here in Kristianstad and I will join it so I can take pictures. I’s new here in my town, only the third year they have it. So nice to see many different people and theirs look.😊

  2. Thank you John for commenting. Disco and Clubbing are the popular but personally I prefer live music of any sort as there is interaction betweeen the musician and the dancers.
Have fun finding just that photo that tells a story.

  3. Radhika, thank you for your lovely comment. I am glad you feel this abandonment of the dance to the song of life. Life is beautiful in spite of
    struggles at times. ❤️ .

  4. Evil is inherent in man. The evidence is all around us. But, as individuals and a nation, we can opt to draw on the good – the compassion born of personal struggle and loss – that’s also inherent in man, waging battle daily within us.

    • Rosaliene, thank you for your heartfelt comment. As individuals we have every day the choice to draw on the good and herein lies the hope for mankind. The compassion born of personal struggle and loss, how right you are that these very things can open us for good.

  5. Thanks for your comment Jaqui. Dancing, singing and all passionate expressions of oneself gives a high. Sets you free from mundane concerns
    and fills you with energy.

Yes, freedom is our right so for all of us who can, don’t let us
relinquish it. Sing and dance with life itself. ❤️ .

  6. This is great, Miriam! Now I want to turn on some fun music and, well, okay, I’m not a dancer, but hey, I can appreciate how light and free music can make one feel. Actually, any good art can evoke those happy feelings. Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!

    • Thank you very much Julie for your positive comment. You don’t need to
be a dancer to enjoy moving to music. You can sway or move any which way
you feel like. I totally agree that arts of all kind can give this kind of joy.

  7. This is beautiful and inspirational, Miriam. I’ve been singing and dancing all my life, almost pursued a singing career but changed directions. Anyway, let us dance and sing to our heart’s content, reveling in the freedom to be who we are, and let us truly believe that our dreams are never naive. ❤🎶🎉

    • Thank you Lauren for your beautiful comment. I am touched.
I hope your change of career dreams never stopped you singing …or dancing. I had to change a musical career too 😊 but the reasons why made
me never regret it. As you say, we still can dance and sing and believe in our dreams. Never naive, I go for that. 🎶🦋❤️

    • Balroop, you are so right. Dance is a natural healer and has been used among all tribes as far as history goes. It is today used in some forward looking hospitals for certain illnesses.

Thank you for your kind comment and yes, let go of fears.

    • Thank you Davy, what a wonderful verdict on my writing you have given. It means a lot. I am glad if the words made you feel renewed energy.
Have you noticed how people light up if you give them a genuine smile when
you meet. I tested it properly this morning and even a quite grumpy ” bloodletter ” smiled. I felt happy about this, before that I met a number of others and it amazed me how much joy can spread.

Have a good week yourself Davy. 🤗

  9. Miriam, only you could merge the light and flow of dance with deeper philosophical thoughts about our world today! With deftness you take us to our inherent freedom, which is part of all of us but many fail to recognise, reminding us that

    ‘your beauty, your song.
    Hidden under historical wrongs;’

May we all choose the light, find the courage of our own convictions, dance in the sun! Beautiful and masterful! 🌺❤️

    • You have done it again Annika, dived deep into the poem, seeing both the light and dark. Thank you for such a wonderful comment.

May we all have courage of our convictions and dance, both physically
      but also spiritually and creatively.
I know you do in your writing. 💕🌾

  10. “history will tell me I am wrong
    so will the news,
that evil is inherent in man”

I believe that we are from God and therefore evil is not inherent in man. Free will is the test of courage to do right and some human have not always passed the test.

Your last lines “Believe in you, in us, in freedom. Dance in the sun with a guileless smile.” say it all.

    • Thank you Judy for this interesting comment. I am always thrilled when I see the reader has listened.
I do not either believe there is any evil in a newborn child. As you say, we are born with the freedom of choice. Which one do we embrace or do we walk the line.
The last line you quote is meant to lift us up where we belong, thank you for noticing.

  12. “History will tell me I am wrong/so will the news,” because they slant toward the evil. If more people did more dancing and singing, there’d be less fighting. And even if it’s just a few of us, we create ripples of joy and peace and happier lives for those near us. I sing a lot, but don’t dance much. I do enjoy those videos with very old ladies dancing. Maybe they’re on to something. Thank you for this beautiful poem and for planting a seed for me to get up and get moving.

  13. JoAnna, thank you for your beautiful comment. You so rightly say : ” we create ripples of joy and peace and happier lives for those near us “.
I do so believe in this ripple effect, you see it in nature and smiles, dance, joy create the same.
I am so glad this gave you more strength today, what more can any scribbler want.

  14. I really like this, Miriam. It is right to enjoy life and make the most of it. Some things we just can’t control or change so we do what we can and shouldn’t be brought down by what is outside our control.

  15. Thank you for your lovely comment Diana. I like that – defiance. Hmmm …
I guess it is about time I learn to be. When it comes to freedom or suppression I think we need to stand and be counted.

  16. Interesting poem Miriam. We all dance to the tune of our own lives. I agree that evil exits but this is balanced by good in equal measure, and for good to succeed evil must e contained. As Edmund Burke said “For evil to succeed a good man simply has to do nothing”

    • Thank you Mike for your very interesting comment. Dancing to the tune of our own life …, so poetically said. Or could our lives be affected by the tune we choose?
Edmund Burke’s quote is so very true, something to remember each day.
